By default, the file name of the output wsp package of a Visual Studio SharePoint project matches the project name. So if your project is named UserManagement for example, the wsp package will be named UserManagement.wsp and this name is what will show up in central admin (under System settings > Manage farm solutions). You will often want to change this though.
To give your wsp a more descriptive name, locate the Package.package file of the Visual Studio project.
In the Design tab, find the Name attribute and change it to whatever you want. Let’s change it to “CompanyName User Management” (this sort of naming makes it easy to locate all custom solutions deployed on client servers by your company in central admin).
Rebuild and re-package your project. You may need to restart Visual Studio as well.
Visual Studio will spit out a new wsp named CompanyName User Management.wsp.
